Living in the city, you don't often get to observe nature. Fortunately I got to go home for the weekend and I spent a while trying to find some animals. I came across what I believed was the first of the bees. It is still a little early in the spring and the weather we've been having recently has been shockingly cold so I didn't even expect to find any bees. I thought the cold would've shocked them all back into hibernation or something. Fortunately I found a few that liked perching on this plant we had outside our house. I don't know if pollen exists on the leaves, and the flowers hadn't bloomed yet, but for some reason the bees liked to perch there. It was a little tough getting close to them, but I setup my tripod and waited for a good while. I finally caught a few and this one was very clear and had a lot of detail. (No alterations done to the photograph. The dark background is due to the depth of field and darkness under the shade of the leaves. Nothing was cloned out. There were some other leaves cropped out though, actually it was the flower part just below the one leaf's stem on the bottom right.)

Excellent focus, very scary subject. The black background seems a little unnatural to me, and that kinda bugs me, but it is an excellent macro shot nonetheless.

This is a pretty good shot of the bee. I'm not wild about the pic as a whole. The leaves could've been darker and I think it would've really enhanced the bee. I believe it would've provided a little more contrast and darkened the bright spot at the very bottom of the leaf on which the bee rests.

wow! great detail and colour on both the leaf and the bee. :) I like the nice dark background too.

Bee? Looks like a wasp to me. Good photo though.

This is a wasp!

A bee? I'd have thought wasp, but whtever. Good shooting, fabulous detail and light, though I'd say just a touch over-exposed - the stem of the leaf, for example.

That's a wasp, I think, but still a nice macro.

Depth of field seems to be slightly out of place. The wasp's forward attena is out of focus but part of the leaf behind the wasp is in focus. Stepping back just a step (baby step) would probably have helped here.

That's a wasp isn't it?

It's actually a wasp :)
