Hi Alan, thanks for your comment on my shot.

I looked through your portfolio and was immediatley drawn to this shot, just from the thumbnail. That's always a good sign, right? :)

This is a really emotive picture. It immediatley draws you in, and it tells a story, which is what I think all photographers strive to do. You really feel sorry for this little guy, and you want to know what happened to fell him. I'm quite suprised that it didn't score better, based on how loudly it speaks to the viewer. I wonder if it wasn't just too powerful for some... but you can't let that stop you from taking the shot.

Technically there's a lot to love also. I don't think you did a selective desat or anything, but the contrast of the color of the bird against the grey of the asphalt is just great and really helps add to the emotion.

My only suggestion is that the depth of field seems even a little too shallow. You don't want much] more, but a little more to bring the stones just behind him into focus too would have been nice, in my opinion.

This is a really powerful shot, and you should be proud of it.

Interesting and unusual image with an intriguing angle. I love the shallow DOF. Not sure about the selective desaturation but I don't dislike it. 8

Poor birdie... The perspective is nice and the angle to it really adds to the emotion. The DOF looks a bit artificial to me though.

This tells a whole story. Poor thing. Nicely shot. I might have cropped out some of the fuzzy part at the top.

the subject is quite good, but there is too much space above the subject to me, way too much.

A sad sight. Not sure if I like what's going on in the background and bottom right though. Still, strong image.
