I like the geometry and although it's a bit bright, I can imagine a scene just after sunrise and a long, dark night. |

Sorry for the form-letter type commentary. I̢۪m going to try to give almost everyone at least this breakdown to start. I would be happy to offer a more detailed opinion if you would like, though I don̢۪t consider myself a very knowledgeable photographer.
Here is how I broke down my score for your submission.
Content: 1/4 (Is the subject compelling? Does the choice of content match the challenge?)
Composition: 2/2 (Is the work well balanced and successful?)
Color/Light: 2/2 (Is light and or color used with skill and artistic intent?)
Clarity: 2/2 (Is the picture in focus? Are the elements clear?)
Total:7/10

You must by now be fed up with all the "doesn't meet the challenge" comments, and presumably the associated poor scores. Especially as it's a pretty good photograph, and quite interesting from a compositional point of view. However, whether this light is on or off, the fact is that your image will not be seen as having any meaningful association with "darkness". Pity, because as I said, it's not a bad photograph at all. 5
P.S. Please don't take this personally. I'm also getting murdered in the voting, but for the opposite reason; TOO dark! |

Certainly there are a lot of voters that will score this low because it is "not dark enough". Hoever this is really a nicely done image and better than most. Yopu angle and the diagonals of the supports make for an interesting composition.
The top of the lampshade is overexposed but that could be corrected with dodging. The angle of the light itself is such that it should either be straighted to make it horizontal or angled more to give it more interesting lines. |

To me although this is a photo of a lightbulb it does not convey darkness (either in itself, or in the emotion it provokes). Perhaps if the lamp were surrounded by darkness it would have more symbolic meaning. |
