From the Critique Club
Very striking image, great mood and depth to the photo. Everything is beautifully detailed. I do find the tree limb to be a bit lackluster. I do not mind the business of the background. it does compete with the colors of the bird somewhat but not displeasing.
Nicely proportioned and centered well. I am not sure why the image did not do better. The border is nice and distracting. Probably came down to personal taste and you can never please everyone. |

Thanks to everyone for all your wonderful comments and great suggestions in this challenge.
This picture was taken on a dark overcast rainy day and because of that
I had a hard time saturating it with color. Yes, I sort of over saturated the eyes. Yes, the background is a bit distracting.
As for the expression, I was about seven foot from the owl and everytime I would press the shutter button the owl would turn its head.
It was the red beem that the camera puts off that the owl was amused with.
Thanks again for all the comments, I am looking forward to the next challenge!

This is just so funny to the point of comical. It is one of the best expressive entries in this challenge. Need to return for the extra bump on your effort. 9 |

Love the pose. Excellent timing. The eyes look unnaturally saturated, maybe even unreal. Don't care for the background - seems like its seen through glass. But, that's my tastes. 8 - good luck in the challenge! |

more contrast would make this a stronger image, or maybe just burn the background? |

i'm guessing this has the qualities to ribbon. great, humorous capture and the eyes are stunning. i never realized owls had such long legs...maybe it's just the entertainers. the only thing that bothers me is the base. it feels incomplete. not sure what you could have done about that. |

I like this shot, but the oversaturated yellow of the owl's eyes is a little distracting. IMHO, it makes the overall appearance of the bird somehow unnatural. The rest of the shot is great - nice muted color tones (and I'm sure the eyes were probably intentional), I just wish the eyes had been toned down a bit. Still, a great shot. (7)

No doubt this is cute. I do think some burn and saturation would of increase the over all look and added some more interest. The colors are a little flat. |

The photo IMO could use just a little boost of contrast. Other then that it's just great. 8 |

This is a cute capture though to me the colors seem a little flat, maybe adjusting the saturation would liven it up a bit, just my opinion though. |
