 I walked trough the animal park in Bern for about 3 hrs, looking for a suitable subject. No luck, either to dark, cage to obvious, bad position. I gave up and decided to go home. Right then this fellow just invited me to take photos of him. I had about 15min good light, good position and a willing subject.

He was quite far away, but the my 300 Zoom and some digital enlargement at home this came out pritty good.

Some burning and dodging, saturation and sharpening.

I hope you enjoy it.

Great composition and black background is perfect for this bird. Nice colour and quality of light and nice catchlight in the eye too. Exposure has lead to blow out in the white areas where I'd most like to see detail. 7

The partially shadowed eyes are somewhat distracting, and his beak looks oversharpened. The curve of his wings leads my eyes out of the picture; a horizontal crop might have made the bird look more fierce and less lanky. A little more headroom would have been nice.

That sure is a mean looking bird. Nice capture only thing I would mention is the slightly blowout highlights in the tuff around it's neck, would like to see a bit more detail there.
