Naturally, I had all sorts of opportunity to take bird shots the weekend before this challenge, and not much opportunity in the week of the challenge. I liked the muted lighting of this part of the garden. Something about it seemed sort of classic and impressionistic, so I made it my subject, even though the peacock's pose isn't as fine as it might have been. It's very different from the other photos I've submitted, so I'm curious to see how it'll do.

Beautiful setting for this photo. However, overall it is too dark. Too bad the peacock wasn't strutting his stuff so you could have captured his tail.

The uneven, harsh light really hurts an otherwise well composed shot. The same photograph taken closer to dawn / dusk would have yielded a really great image.

the building in the background distracts you from the bird.

Nice to show the environment but in this case the bird is not a strong focal point. Firstly because it's in the shadow whereas the brightest area is the grass behind - need more light on it and less elsewhere - and secondly because the image has detail from foreground all the way through to background - shallow DOF and blurred background might help.

Breathtaking scenery. I really like the fact that the peacock really "fits" the background too. It looks to me like the foreground grass is overprocessed or something (not sure whether it's just a different variety of grass either), but it's a little distracting. Also the focus of the peacock is a little soft (but these are minor points IMHO).

Great job! (8)
