There's something really comforting about a darkened room in the middle of the day. Makes me think of childhood naps. How dare you show us a side of darkness that isn't scary! :P |

Like this a lot...a little glimpse into someone's REAL life. I notice you are into 'quartered' compositions quite a bit...adds to the sense of just focusing on only a part of a larger scene. Keep up the personal element to your photos...it works. |

for me...darkness is not all things morbid and depressing or creepy and weird...I find a certain comfort in it's coolness...a safety in it's shelter...a beauty in it's softness...and perhaps I'm a little old fashioned...but keeping the hot sunshine out of my house during these hot southern summers really helps with the energy bills...really...it does...don't hate me because I'm frugal :P

I can assume the sliver of light from the window is your justification for darkness or an addiction to scent. never the less this is the best entry for this chall. A beautiful photo with great comp and lighting as well as an intriging statement....Good Luck!!!! |

I have come back to this photo 5 or 6 times now. I keep looking at it and looking at it. I try and relate your title to it. I really have tried to see your'darkness' in this image, but just can't. Instead of dinging you because I cannot see something inyour image, I passed on voting. It certainly is a good image and an interesting one speaking from perspective. Good luck! |

I think this is a really cool photograph, and I love the contrasts of wall and curtain, the image in the mirror, and those perfume bottles. I interpret this photo as the curtains providing the darkness/escape from the sweltering heat. I wish this photo could have more effectively relayed the heat and escape for the theme. |

Nice still life. Image quality is excellent and color fine. Including a portion of the mirror adds interest to the composition. The blue in the reflected ceiling is great.
Though it is obvious what you connection to the challenge topic is there will probably be narrower thinking voters that will not buy it, even though it is supposed to be what darkness means to YOU.
If there is a technical flaw it is that the focal plane is the wall instead of the center of the perfume bottles. If you had did that or took the image with a naroower aperature to increas e the depth of field then you could have had the front bottles in as clear of focus as the wall, draps and mirror. They are slightly soft as is.
Overall this is an very good picture, but probably will not achieve the score it deserves. |

Good composition. The bottles are sharp and I like the lighting. Good answer to the challenge. Bumping up. Third pass: bumping up some more! |

i already can hear the comments to this lovely scene and hammering it down for not meeting the challengetopic
inspite that we all know darkness has a very effectfull use in 'ease the swelter' as the fine title points out
besides its a pleasing composition with beautiful amber coloured elements and a refreshing touch of blue
so this makes a nice and original entry and a relief amongst all these over the top entries i had to struggle to go tru

somehow I don't get a feeling of darkness.. its more like light coming through...
The picture is moody for sure and technically good... 6 |
