Blimey - this was seriously under rated. it has that Magic feel about it (the film about a ventriloquist with Anthony Hopkins). Don't feel gloomy about the score - this is really good work.

My only negative is the slight loss of focus on the eyes.

Photographically, this is a great shot. In regards to the title and theme of the challenge, I don't quite make the connection.

Scary

Good dark pic but it really does not communicate fear. 6.

Very nice. Love the detail...the paint peeling off, the texture in the forehead. I also like how it is cropped with part of the face off frame. The fact that the eyes are slightly out of focus adds emotion.

Nice composition. Great grey tones. STechnical quality is good. Seems to be on the low contrast side for white. Might want to try setting a white point or by increasing white with a selective color adjustment. Doesn't really come across as fearful but I doubt voters will have a problem relating this to the challenge topic.

I like the choice of crop here, as well as the choice of a primary subject. I'm not sure if fear leaps to mind upon viewing the subject, but there's definitely something amiss there, and this relates well to the challenge topic. The lighting/contrast choice, however, I think is a missed opportunity. Yes, the dark tone might score well with voters, but I feel this image really needed a stronger contrast. A lighter left side of the image, would take care of the ear parts that are still visible (which I think is rather distracting) and at the same time enhance the overall image. More light on the right side would also bring out the detailing and features on the face, adding a starkness and possibly emphasizing the decay aspects of the image. 7

I fear the darkness too, and now even more, thanks!! I like this one alot!

I'm afraid this shot won't rate very well as it's a mask/schulpture, which is kind of like taking a photo of a statue, which I did once & got hammered for it. Good luck.

Plaster surgery needed.

Would like to see focus on the eyes instead of the tip of the nose.

Who wouldn't be afraid of having a broken nose? The sculpture doesn't really scream "fear" at me, even if that's what the lighting is intending to bring out. 4

I'm sorry, but pictures of masks and figurines need to be pretty special to make it.

Excellent. The lighting is dramatic, applied to an inanimate subject, making it appear alive. Just one question: why fear?
06/15/2005 10:59:15 AM
yes, this is dark feeling. Nice composition.

Fear is a funny thing. Why should anyone be afraid of this? I am... 10. One of the best in the challenge.

interesting pic...definitely meets the challenge. owever, I am not crazy about the filter you used, or the white blob on the end of the nose.
