Greetings from the Critique Club :)
Hi Pete...
This is a nice catch :) The framing and composition choice via your crop is strong. The bird is filling enough of the frame to create interest, and the 'pose' of the bird with his head turned is nice also. Sometimes it's possible to capture a good candid like this if they subject sits still long enough for you :)
I don't know what defined your 'crop' on this shot, but there could have been some opportunities to place the subject off center as well. The crop you mention is obviously for a reason and I'll assume that it was to cut some distractions out of the image :)
I like the flat color in this image. The bird and the background blend nicely but it still lets the bird stand out as a strong subject... The only issue I see with this photo is that I can't really determine why your subject is not tack sharp. It could have been from digital zoom, too small of a crop, or a host of other reasons, but if it was intentional, I personally feel that sharper would be better for this subject :)
Keep up the good work :)
John Setzler

I'm giving this a 10 just because it is my favourite bird!! I was named for this bird and have never seen one live!! |

I have a feeling this is not a robin but is a nice photo none the less. |

Great image. I think that maybe it might need sharpened a little bit. Good job. |

Too large! It totally fills up my screen and then some. It's even larger than life-size, which I find disturbing. Otherwise nice. - 6 |

i'd have settled for a bit more of a crop along the top, but nice detail on the bird! |

Focus seems off just slightly, and a little crop from the left hand side might have improved the image just a bit. Nice capture of a good looking robin! |

I think it's a chickadee - at least that's what we call them here - our robins are a lot different than this little bird. Great capture - nice pose. I love the detail you have achieved - even on the tiny little feet. |

Looks short. Should have gone down on your knees for a better perspective, provided the bird doesn't fly away. |

This is really cute, you've captured this guy well. I like the softness you've created in the pic, well done. |
