A good effort and an interesting subject, it just isn't as captivating as other photos in this challenge - 5 |

Decent attempt to create a fantasy from the natural worled. The muted color and grey tones add interest to the composition. Good use of the rule of thirds. The use of shallow depth of field here to highlight the rock is fine.
Some viewers will be confused because they will think this should be vinca minor which is a type of periwinkle ground cover commonly found in yards and gardens. This is not that. You might be to far "out of the box" for some folk's with your title.
On the technical side this image has a touch of a problem very common in my own images. It is related to focus where there is a lot of fine detail. It gives the image a kind of granulated out of focus look when the image is higher contrast such as this one. Wish there was a technique that I could suggest to fix that but it will contribute to a slightly lower score. |

I was thinking what does a periwinkle (shrub/flower) have to do with this picture, so I went and looked it up in the dictionary and found out that it was snails as well. So thanks for improving my knowledge with this photo. Intriguing rock textures with the snails add to the interest of the picture. If the right hand side of the rock didn't lead off the photo, this would score much higher. 6 |
