Challenge: Leading Lines II (Advanced Editing IV)
Camera: Canon PowerShot A80
Location: Chillicothe, North of Peoria, IL
Date: Jun 21, 2005
Aperture: 7.1
ISO: 50
Shutter: 1/320
Date Uploaded: Jun 26, 2005

Shot of a train approaching. Back light was really harsh, but not knowing the train schedule, it's the best I could do. I wish it would have been closer, but My buddy was freaking out that I was standing right next to the track and this train was really haulin'. I just snapped a couple and got out of the way.

I expect a lot of train/track shots in this challenge, so I'll probably suffer from not being original, but, after all the processing, I liked the way it turned out.

Lots of curves and saturation work, major cropping, leveled horizon. Convert to B/W, added some noise for texture. Resized, very little USM and a small border.

Very cool shot - the lines are perfect. I'm not a big fan of artfully "noisy" shots, but it seems to work well here. Nice job.

Nicely seen and processed!
A bit rough & edgy - which is a nice touch!

Great composition! I like the noise; makes it gritty and industrial.

I think that the graininess of this shot really adds to it somehow. The light on the rails and lights on the train add a lot, too. Very nice!

Very nice. I'm sure that the grain won't be to everyones's taste, but I think it adds to the mood. Overall this may be a little dark on some peoples screens (looks perfect on my LCD) Excellent.

The grain works really well here. I can almost feel the train coming at me.

In terms of the challenge theme, this is one of the strongest contenders. Those lines are so strong and lead so effectively to an object that actually has interest and serves as an excellent focal point. I really iike the grittiness inherent in it and the darkness too. Black and white is essential to that. Composition rocks too. 10

For some reason, I just love train pictures. Nice composition on this one. I wish the depth of field was a little bigger so the train and the background stuff was a little sharper, but I really like the picture anyway. Good luck.

Nice photo but you could have been killed...

I've always loved these rail or road convergence shots. And this is a very good one. Great use of leading lines, particularly with the sparkling highlights on the rails. Also like the three headlights. 7

interesting approach.
I like it a lot.
I'm not sure if the grain is deliberate or not?
But it does give the picture a "gritty" feel to it.

I like this, it is just slightly OOF.
