i had a similar entry a while back, and it was suggested to me that i could make the image more dynamic by rotating it to make the line more diagonal, from one corner to the other. i did that, and i made a huge difference...something so simple.

as far as setting up the shot, you might have chosen a more dynamic angle, rather than shooting it almost documentary-style from the side. look for ways to shoot your subject that bring your viewer into the image as a participant.

Thanks, the shot was a set-up and the fading light and long shadow were due to me leaving it 'till the last minute to go and shoot it ;)

the light around the shoe suggests dawn or dusk, that's nice light.

Not enough subject. The blacktop was very well represented in this one, and the detail of it can't be beat, but the shoe itself kind of disappears into it. Brighter lighting around the shoe and sharper focus would have made it pop.
