Well I hope that this is not misconstrued as falling under the exception to this challenge:...people (alive or dead) are not to be the main subject. The subject is religion and that is exemplified in this by the three crosses. But I am a bit worried about it anyway. So guess it will be voted down, though I really rather like it. It was either this or a school or a run down, bent and trodden upon pylon.

This is a portion of a statue commemerating another church that no longer stands and is behind the Archdiocese of Philadelphia Cathedral of Sts.Peter and Paul, the building in the background.

Post: Open. Rotate. Crop. Layer adjustments for levels (50% opacity), brightness/contrast (75% opacity) and hue/saturation. Lighten shadows 5%, darken highlights 5% and decrease contrast -5%. USM. Resize. USM.

07/06/05: I am very sorry if I offended anyone...certainly didn't mean to. Some comment(s) made the assumption that religion is not part of my life. Not so. I attend and sing at my family church outside of town or another church in the city. Didn't mean to touch any nerves and thanks for the comments regarding the image, both the good ones and the bad ones.

Nice photo, technically as well as composition. But I must take umbrage to the implication that organized religion is obsolete. There is no way it could rake in the $$$$ it does if this were so. Bumped you to a 6 from a 4 on the second go round.

Hardly obsolete...it endures beyond necessity and reason. Interesting composition. Better than the Bible photos.

Funny how when people on this site say Organized Religion is obsolete, they seem to depict Christian religion. Why not a Buddha or a mosque? I am not a believer in crucifixes nor do I revere depictions of a dead God, but I am offended by this photo. It's a well designed photo, 3 crosses for emphasis, and a properly exposed, well placed foreground image. Technically, not a sub-5 score. But if you have paid any attention whatsoever to what types of shots are submitted, you know there are a great number of devoted believers on DPC who WILL be offended by this.

Yes, you have a right to express your opinion, but as a member of a community, you might have some concern for your fellow contributors. And they have the right to be offended and to rate you accordingly. Just my opinion. I have no dog in this hunt, but I have a lot of peers whose feelings I have concerns for.

hmm... an interesting concept, especially when you consider that literally BILLIONS of people on that planet are followers of various organized religions.

IMO misses the spirit of the challenge. You may believe organized religion is obsolete but quite a few billion people would disagree. Maybe organized religion is obsolete in your life, in which case i can follow your logic a bit better.

No offense, but the photograph doesn't seem to really meet the challenge until you labeled it with your title. But, I think it is a strong composition on its own.

I like the juxtaposition of this shot, giving it so many levels that it looks almost 3 dimensional.

Obsolete? Not for millions upon millions people. Does not fit the challenge.

Politics, war and work should also be declared obsolete, however as all of the aforementioned as well as religion is practiced my millions I feel it is out of context with the challenge.

Interesting idea. You KNOW you're going to take a lot of heat for this! Good compostion and framing, and exposure. I like it.

The ideology doesn't work for me, but it's clever that you used the three crosses in the shot. Seems a bit washed out. Shouldn't the light be on the Christ figure? Or maybe that's your intent.
