I was inspired by this image by Connie J. Bagot:
Orange
I tried to reproduce what she did, but her photo is still much better. I'll see what I can do with this one.
Used a flashlight to illuminate the slice from behind, and then move it to illuminate its front, all in 2s time. Adjusted hue to cast the yellow lemon into reddish-orange tone, to make a more interesting shot.
Cloned out some traces of light, and burned hot spots in the lower left.

Thanks for including the "how" about the lighting - would have never guessed this was how it was done. Neat idea!

Don't be so hard on yourself. I found her picture to be lacking in a few areas too. It was good, but I really like yours quite a bit too.

Nice interpretation.

This is pretty. Love the concept. I would liked to have seen more brightness on the front of the orange slice though.

6 - I like the concept. Lacking the expected color though. Not sure about the lighting, though it does give 'something' to the rind. The 'edge' bottom left is distracting/detracting.

Very cool reflection. IMHO a little more color really would have made it pop, but still a great shot!

The reflection on the water and the water itself is great. I think the lighting is a tad harsh - I like it on the right side but on the left it makes the orange a little unattractive. I think it is because it penetrates the orange peel to some degree. I think the composition/crop are good. 6 - good luck in the challenge!

Very neat. Love the lighting. I can almost smell the fruity citrus frangrance! Can't find any faults with this one. 10 from me.
