Thanks everyone for the comments. The crab was "almost" dead so he posed well. The flies were a little tougher to work with.

Very surprised this didn't finish higher. Ya know, I bet a lot of people overlooked the flies. That really made the shot. Fantastic job - I love it.

wow, scared the @#$&! out of me when it first downloaded, considering i had just been mudling through endless numbers of bees, flowers, dragonflies, moths.....either way, my point being: great job. i love the colors, and the texture from the grains of sand. i'm not sure if the flies add interest or are just a distraction, though. extra points for creativity aswell. (10)

8 - Yes. Very good photo, even the flies add something different. The crab alone would be good too. For me, more of a 'ground level' angle would have added better perspective. Good color. Hmm, is it dead?

Incredible detail on this shot! Very well done!! I like the two flies on his claws as well...that's just stunning. Really nice shot. Good composition and nice colors as well.

WOW! I was just thinking how great the DOF & colors were on the crab as I panned down and WHAM, not 1 but 2 flies with the same degree of DOF. Outstanding job. 9 (May bump up on second pass...) 10. Simply amazing.

maybe a crop closing in the eyes and the 2 flys would have been a better comnposition?
