FIRST IMPRESSION: great exposure, sepia was a good choice, but the tilt bothers me.

CHALLENGE: Meets the challenge.

COMPOSITION: I feel the composition for this shot would have been stronger if the shot were level (as it is, it feels like the wheels should be rolling off to the left).

TECHNICAL: Exposure is good, but a shallow depth of field would have made the junk in the background less of a distraction. The sepia was an excellent choice for this photograph.

CONCLUSION: A good, solid entry and an interesting subject, well captured.

Thanks for sharing and good luck in future challenges!

Good focus on the subject, but I would have chosen a shallower DOF to throw those distracting background items out of focus. I like that you played on the brown tones in the rusted old wheels when colouring this picture, but I can't say I agree with how you choose to compose this shot. I thought about whether I wanted a tighter crop or a wider angle, and come to the conclusion that neither would have improved this one for me. Perhaps if you shot just the round wheels in behind sitting on the rails without the big one in front, it would have been a more interesting shot? These are just a few ideas -- feel free to disregard some or all! :)

Normally I do not like sepia tones because they seem lifeless, but in this case the choice was a good one, IMHO. Depth of field is great, also.

No real subject in the photo, try different framing

I think I would have liked this more had you focused more on just the wheels in the forground... it's still a great shot!

This is the perfect sepia colour (imo). I`ve tried a few but never quite got the colour right. Massive dof with everthing in focus and interesting as well. 10

nice light, good subject, but there is a little too much in the frame.

Nice capture of this inventive train image. Light is a bit harsh, but these wheels are pretty durable, it appears.

the color wash really works for this photo -- makes it feel very old!
