A technically perfect picture - but why? As a macro there is no advice to give, your focus is incredible. But other than that, what does it offer of interest? I questioned the pink background, and the grey coin does look good on pink but I bet you could have improved your score half a point simply by putting it on a flag, or something with american colors.

why pink for the background?

This is technically well executed, but that is it. I am honestly suprised that this wasn't DQ'd due to the literal representation clause...but I'm not a fan of that clause anyway. In the future, utilizing your obvious skill in the technical aspect of photography while employing a more artistic aproach should yield you better results.

Composition: 3, Dead center and flat... not really a creative composition, it's more of a "documentary" (like something you might shoot to give to your insurance company in case of theft).

Technical: 5, The focus seems right on for the bottom 2/3rds of the image, but looks just a little soft on the top 1/3rd. A more dynamic image would have taken advantage of the shallow DOF assosicated with macros and extreme close-ups by keeping the main subject in focus and allowing the rest of the image to blur in order to establish a 3-dimensional look in the image.

Appeal: 5, Hard to rate the appeal ... it's just "there". Again, like a documentary. It doesn't appear to be an image that was meant to show the creative side of the shooter.

Challenge: 5, Nice close-up. A more macro version might have focused in on just a portion of the coin and explored the texture of the metal or the engraved writing.

Overall Calculated Average Score: 5, Not a bad image... It just lacks a reason to want to spend more time looking at it.

Evenly lighted. Nice shot

don't care for the color of the background - think a sepia or montone would be more appropriate - but the coin itself is fabulous! 7

sorry to be blunt but in a challenge with 350+ entries i think your shot is uninspiring, dull and boring. imo this is the type of shot you take to see if your lens is working properly.

The background on this is distracting.

background distracts a bit, sharp focus, I'd like to see other lighting angles as this one flattens the image

Very nice macro. A better background would have been an improvment. Still very nice.

Good shot, just a tad dark.

Meets the challenge, but the light is a little flat and the background is very distracting, try a solid black with no weave in it next, IMHO.

I do feel that we get coins in a lot of challenges, whether its obsolete, metal and now macro. To get a good score with this subject the image is going to have to be superb.
