A graveside shot with a person in it--puts a different slant on things for sure; seems a little dark and/or flat to me, although that seems to be a desirable look for a lot of people. |

I am not sure of the reasoning for the angle. |

The gravestone seems a bit old for the youngin to be connected, but whatever, it's a nice photo. |

Good concept. Sepia and perspective work well for this image. Generally good exposure and dodge and burn done nicely to create an ominous sky. Overall technical quality is OK.
Some viewers may vote lower from a "meet the challenge" standpoint because they will blieve it is staged. It will be hard for them to believe that the model could have such profound sadness over a lost relative that died in 1904. Some may not like the angled perspective.
The sky and trees make a great background but the mausoleum and building in the background act as a distraction from your model. |

IMO It all seems a bit contrived...the gothic sepia, the slant, the "despair" which really doesn't ring true due to the age of the model paired with the age of that grave stone...maybe if it were a newer stone the sadness might be more believable, but then again most new stones are a bit boring. |

Please forgive me if I am wrong, but this loks like an obvious staged shot - the problem here is that you are trying to convince the viewer that the person is mourning over the deceased person, but the headstone is so obviously waaaay old that it doesn't fit together and that jumps out right away. |

Outstanding photo! Having it tilted like that really adds impact to the sadness....The threatning sky also adds to the feeling.....very well done! |

That mournful person must be MUCH older than they look - the Date of Death is 1904. How canyou remember that person after 101 years? |

1904 :) You have been in mourning since pre-conception.
Nice shot though. |

This is a sad photo. Interesting angles, and the sepia tones look really good with that turbulent sky and the old, old gravestone. |

Definite angst in this shot. Perhaps a bit too crooked, though? |

The angle is an interesting one. The sepia tone does go with "gothic" theme of the shot. I think it would have been a more powerful shot more tightly cropped with less of the distractions in the background. |

Wow! This shot stopped me in my tracks. Not pretty to look a tbut it has such impact. A 10 in my book. |

Processing: ok. Some of the lighter parts seem unnaturally light for some reason. The far shoulder really draws my attention away from the face. The person is in a convincing pose with just the right amount of sadness expressed. I'm a bit puzzled about why someone so young should be so sad about a woman that died in 1904. The life of the (presumed)ancestor made the life of the person possible. Shouldn't the living rejoice instead? |

personally I do not fancy the crop but it is such a powerful image that one can only see the greatness. |

I just don't get family from this shot. Especially since the person in the shot could never have known the person in the grave. I do get a sense of despair, depression, loneliness, detachment. All great to be conveyed by a photo. But I just don't get family. |

First; I have a thing for the artistic quality and the spirits in graveyards. There is a great deal of characte, emotionsr and personality in this picture. Very well done. |

A very emotional invoking photo. Nice use of tones and shadows. I would have liked a different angle so that the headstones in the background didn't appear to be surrounding the seated person's head. |

How sad but a great image. Coloring for this is awesome and exactly what it needs. Nice sharpness and contrast. |

angled a little too much in my opinion. The sentiment of loss of family would have been portrayed better if the stone were not from generations so far removed (stone reads 1868-1904). The deceased and the young person would not have any ties other than a distant relative they never met. |

I like this a lot...the slight color line through the clouds distracts me from the subject. 7 |
