Welcome to the Gorilla Tropics at the San Diego Zoo. This one is hiding behind some unusual plants (unfortunately, I don't know what they are).

Edits in Photoshop CS:
-Rotate image
-Crop
-USM
-Levels adjustment layer
-Hue/sat adjustment layer
-Burn layer (took out some distracting ground cover near the gorilla's head, and some blown highlights on the foreground plant)

It's hard to see an image as good as this at 136th place. When I see comments like 'I think this would have been stronger if the simian was actually the main subject of the photo' (no offence to Alienyst)I despair. It misses the whole point of such a beautiful, subtle, ARTISTIC image. I give up.

Thanks David for such a gorgeous image;)

I really hope this photo does well - 9 - but I have a feeling people won't 'get it.'

Oh, wow. I am not qualified to judge this as a good photo, but I really like what you tried to do here.

Great Idea that may have benefitted from a deeper DOF.

I like it, but I feel the ape is too hidden. I think you should do fine though. 7

your subject is too hidden - almost to the point of not being noticed.

Great idea and good DOF on the foreground. I like your composition, but think that if the gorilla was a little more visible the image might have a stronger impact. As it is, he/she is almost lost - and I realize that conscious artistic choices were made to "hide" him/her in the "jungle" as would be found in the real world, but I think you could still get that point across with a little more visibility. Still, it's a very powerful image - full of emotion. Nice job.
