Some background information:
On the 4th of May we remember those who have fallen for our freedom in Holland. The emblem on the glass belongs to one of the Dutch light cruisers the Hr. Ms. De Ruyter. This ship was lost in the night of the 26-27th of February 1942 during the Battle of the Java Sea. The glass belonged to my grandfather who served in the Navy during WWII (fortunately for me not on the Hr. Ms. De Ruyter otherwise I would not have existed).

About the picture:
I think this is one of the most difficult challenges I participated so far. The hardest part was to bring some interest to the glass for the viewer. The picture was taken indoors. I used daylight for light and a white sheet as background. The color of the blood is bright red to show that a lot of years have passed since that tragic happening in 1942 and that the memories slowly fade away.

it doesn't look like blood, and what does the crest mean?

NIcely composed, good contrasts and sharpness ... however, I had to grade it down a little (relative to others) because the star of the shot is the art *painted* on the glass, and not the glassness of it, if you will. A decent try, but not, IMHO, a great one, at the theme.
