First challenge entry, hope to have many more...
I wanted something original which hadn't been done to death. The picture was fairly straightforward after I remembered the neat corpuscles inside a piece of grapefruit. After running down to the grocery store, picking out a nice ruby red, and then carefully peeling several pieces apart, I placed one on a black mat and shot in a dark room with a high f-stop (for maximal DOF) and long exposure. The piece of grapefruit was lit by a penlight from the side trying to mimimize highlights and light on the matboard.
Post processing: rotate slightly, crop, levels, up contrast a bit, slightly desaturate (brought texture out more), USM, despeckle to remove some of the highlights, touch more USM, border. |

Sir Isaac had a trash pile, you have this.
So you have that going for you, which is nice. :) |

I liked this shot when I voted was one of my favorites in the challenge. Knowing how you lit it now I cant help but wonder how it would have looked if you had lit it with a strobe flash on black velvet to get a sharper image? Great shot, I dont like grapefruit but I find myself wanting to reach out and eat it! |

Wow. I am tickled with such a high finish. I consider the competition to be quite stiff here and am honored with even a top 100 finish. In the end, this picture isn't that great. It fulfills the challenge quite well, I believe, but it doesn't fulfill the question "would you hang it on a wall?" very well. I'm looking foward to more challenges in the future. |

Looks like a timted brain. Very good capture as it invites my fingers to scoop it and history. Delicious. Bumping up. |

Looks remarkably like a fish. Fantastic shot! I can taste, smell, and feel the Ruby Red now. :-) Great job. Bumping up. 9 |

With out the title, I'd never have know what this is. It looks like a sculpture, but also like a rock formation, but somehow too organic as well. |

I like the original subject and the simple and uncluttered composition. A different orientation of the light might have made the flesh of the fruit look more transluscent and appealing? Great texture though! |

This one totally blows me away. It's incredibly clear, and so well lit with nice highlighs and shadows. Great job! 10 |

This almost looks like an underwater creature. Interesting but not that appealing to me. |

Interesting. Hate the frame though - it does nothing but distract. |

Love the textures here - not sure I am crazy about the black background. White background and more vivid lighting would have nailed this. |
