Location: My dining room

Aperture: F2.8

This is my violin. It hasn't been getting much use since I picked up photography...

* Rotate 2 degrees to the right
* Crop
* Cloned out a few small reflections on the violin
* Cloned out a small seam between the black shirts I was using as the background
* Reduced brightness/contrast of background
* Adjusted red levels on violin wood
* Resize
* USM, 115/0.5/4
* Add 15 pixel border
* Save for web

I wish I knew how to (legally) touch up the right string over the fingerboard to remove the pixilation.

I know I'm taking a bit of risk with the larger reflections in the violin wood, but they seem to give the violin more depth and more of a polished look than the other shots that have no reflections. We'll see what others think.

Wow...a top 20 finish. I am stunned. When I first signed up on this site as a novice photographer I thought it would take forever to get a photo into the top 20. Most of what Iâve learned about photography (especially post-processing) has come from hours and hours of studying the material on this site, so I owe a big âthank youâ to the DPC community.

Iâve included all the post-processing steps I did in my comments on the photo. Iâve also uploaded a photo of the setup I used to get the shot:

Thanks so much to all for the great comments, and thanks again DPC!

Hmmm.. this is the second shot like this. Out of the two, I like this one better.

Very nice exposure a crop on the violin. I think it would be better with the negative space cut reduced by about half. (7)

Nice! Of the instrument shots, I like this one the best. Simple yet perfect use of negative space. Good one.
