When I see this photo, I realize that you are trying to use the diagonal lines for composition. But it doesnt seem to be doing anything for the photo. Also, something is happening with magenta colour of the bark and the really colourful background (though it is out of focus).
I think this photo could use some sharpening. It might look better in b&w. I wonder how diffeternt it would have been if you had tried to make the hole formed by the bark (upper left corner of this photo) as the center.
These are my thoughts, as all.

a bit dark causing lack of detail

I've seen these trees and they are very pretty. Unfortuantely the foreground is too dark to really bring out this.

The tree bark is beautiful but I am not sure the lighting is the best it could be for this image. The tree is so dark and the leaves so light they distract. Maybe revisiting this at a different time of day would help. 4

don't know what the heck it is, but it's lovely! losing detail towards the top and busy background distracting. colour wonderful

what a odd tree. I will have to look them up on the internet. Thanks for an orginal shot

A bit of fill flash would have brightened this up nicely so that the grain and knots etc. could be seen more clearly. It might brighten up a bit in Photoshop or whatever editing package you use but then the background will blow out so probably would have been better to go with my first suggestion so that the branch and background were closer to the same exposure.

With it being in shadow, I can't really tell what it is. The background is almost more interesting than the subject. Maybe shoot in different light??
