great shot!

A bonafide poster here. The comp is different and distinct with the visual tie-in to nature's "flying machines" who seem to have an interest in the event as well. Excellent work. One of those shots that can define a career.

favorite added. I missed it during challenge unfortunately.

incredible shot, would have taken 1-3 if not for the branches.. but you know that already :-)

congrats!

Here it is without the branches
The water was right there so I wasnt able to get closer :(
Thanks for all the comments

very cool capture, love the way you captured the smoke rolling out from underneath and the reflection of the fire. Very nice work.
08/03/2005 12:14:26 AM
A significant capture which does not lend itself to retakes. Congratulations on your top twenty finish.

Great shot. Dificult to photograph. I like the reflection. I would like to see the shuttle more off center though. 6

Good drama. Excellent framing. Looks like there's a couple of hairs on the lens.
07/30/2005 01:09:27 PM
great picture - not sure it fits the challenge but very topical! Probably ribbon winner!
07/30/2005 09:35:19 AM
what a beautiful shot!

I have rated a bunch of photos this happens to be one of two no. 10 that I assigned. Good work, being in the right place at the right time. Wonderful image. Good luck. dp

Wowww!!!!!
07/28/2005 08:03:46 PM
Beautiful.
07/28/2005 12:28:23 AM
a highly interesting subject and picture. too bad the time of the day isnt in favour or else we could have got more details and focus. 9
07/27/2005 10:05:55 PM
The water and ripples in foreground is excellent. Mist and haze can sometimes work for you or against you, imo this time it worked against you. 7
07/27/2005 08:55:54 PM
Wonderful shot, great that you could be there. The only thing I would change is the two lines one sticking up from the bottom and one in the top right hand corner which I would clone out. This of course isnt allowed in this challenge. But nonetheless it is a beautiful shot.
07/27/2005 08:42:03 PM
love this. you are so lucky to have seen, in person, this historic launch. 10
07/27/2005 07:43:56 PM
To me this could be a really awesome photo, to bad the small weeds or what ever they are. Are in the way. Since the main focus of the photo is the shuttle, you could have bump the contrast up some, not alot. So we could see the fire more and then played with some levels, to darken the foreground some. Kinda like silhouette and on that note I give you an 8. Hell I might even buy a print.
07/27/2005 07:26:10 PM
LOL, wonder where you were??? florida? great job
07/27/2005 06:46:23 PM
Excellent photo. Interesting having the birds in the foreground. Lovely perspective.
07/27/2005 05:29:11 PM
Oh man. This is great!!!! I would love to see this one win a ribbon. Fantastic job!!! 10
07/27/2005 04:34:38 PM
This is an excellent picture
07/27/2005 04:29:12 PM
amazing shot It must have been somthing to see well done wow
07/27/2005 04:06:06 PM
Tool?
07/27/2005 02:38:34 PM
I'm not sure I can mentally qualify the vehicle as a tool of the trade for astronauts. No dock for my opinion on how well this one fits the challenge, thoughk, as I can your viewpoint. It's a great photo only marred by the two "hairs", or whatever they are.
07/27/2005 02:03:28 PM
Impressive scene...it's too bad that the conditions didn't allow for a clearer, sharper view of the shuttle.
07/27/2005 01:44:16 PM
Really a nice shot, the little blurry lines on the top right and bottom hurt it a bit, but I'll still rate it high
07/27/2005 01:37:01 PM
Lucky you being there to take this shot!
07/27/2005 12:56:13 PM
Wow... you lucky #@$% I wish I was there. Great photo BTW. The lines or twigs are distracting.... 9.
07/27/2005 12:41:15 PM
Very, very nice shot! I'm jealous of your vantage point! Wish I could have been there. - 10
07/27/2005 12:12:10 PM
Awesome photo! The only thing that is distracting is the lines in the upper right and lower right. 7
07/27/2005 11:18:19 AM
I really like this photo. The shuttle in the background, the birds watching on in the foreground. I'm not too fond of the border and the two blurred spots (bottom and top right side) really take away from the overall feeling. I also would have liked it to be a bit brighter or it may have been better in B&W - 8
07/27/2005 10:36:52 AM
isn't that just amazing...?
07/27/2005 09:52:46 AM
Yes wasn't that great. Nice photo and capture.
07/27/2005 08:32:22 AM
Lucky that you had the opportunity to shoot this. Nice capture. It's a refreshing change from most of the other entries. Great reflection.
07/27/2005 04:25:32 AM
Amazing photograph you get 10
07/27/2005 04:17:20 AM
Awsome picture. Could have been cropped a little tighter. The thick lines in the upper right corner and bottom are distracting. Very nice job tough!
07/27/2005 01:13:12 AM
struggling to link it to the challenge topic... I guess the shuttle could be considered a tool. Ok. Excellent and rare photo. Well done.
07/27/2005 12:47:20 AM
That's a cool shot. Too bad about the nearest branches. Clone 'em out, this one's a keeper.
07/27/2005 12:39:15 AM
I guess you were at the Launch today. I would have liked to have seen the camera turned sideways for this pic. But its a good catch still.
