Okay - now that the challenge is over, here's a reply to some of the comments.

This is an AR-15 - I realize it has no scope and is not an actual sniper rifle, but it seemed to have more impact than the 7mm with a scope that I could have used.
As for the 40 Mag ("banana clip") being illegal....it is only illegal to sell them. Those folks who owned one before the ban were allowed to keep them.
The odd contrast was done purposefully to give it less of a backyard snapshot look - not due to any blown out highlights. The trees actually looked fine.

I don't like the theme, but it is oddly artistic. --9

It seems like there is a gun pic in every challenge. If you are going to pick a controvertial subject, it better be an awesome shot to overcome the bias a portion of your audience is going to have. This doesn't cut it.

I think the contrast just draws too much away from the picture.

Actually wouldn't a snipper have an M40 or a Berett .50? There's not much sniping done with the fixed stock M16 w/ high capacity mag. But I like the shot. I also own the same gun.

that looks more like an M4, no scope attached so you cant really use it for sniping, lol. 7

you must have blown out the highlights on the trees really badly and tried to tone them down with levels? that's the only reason i can come up with for the strong posterization effect in the branches. this photo is well conceived, but has pretty severe lighting problems.

Nice shot, but what's going on with the background?

The background really loses this one points, but it's a creative interpretation of the challenge!

Sad fact of life that this is becoming a 'tool of the trade' and sometimes in the wrong hands......Composition good 6
