 Corrected perspective, USM and a little gaussian blur for noise.
This is actually a silhouette of a crystal wine glass with a blue LED light shone through it. The glass is very old and has these patterns (not exactly grooves), but more like shapes in it and they gathered the light and reflected it back on a black background in these thin wispy vails. I could hardly believe my eyes when I saw it first

you know, what I think would really make this shot work is a mask to block out the overflow blue light. if you made a cutout in the shape of the wine glass and stuck it onto the glass, the only thing that would show is the patterning. that, to my eye, would produce a much more interesting display.

Thanks all for the comments and the votes. This is actually my second attempt at this shot and I'm far from happy with it. Both times I used black matte paper for the back ground, though I spray painted it this time, but it still comes out as noise in the background. Next time I think I have to use metal of some sort.

Like this but i am partial to anything that is blue! I keep looking at it to try and discover what is giving the effect! A lovely picture well done

Some people love the blue and black tones and this image is certain to entice them. A lovely silhoutte with a cool light effect and appropiate title.

Cool!!! Love the vivid blue and the "electric" sense of the energy from the goblet. Great in the imagination department as well.

I'm totally baffled by what this is, but it's a cool shot. Almost looks like a gas flame coming out of the chalice. A little bit noisy in the darker sections. Why the vingetting in the upper right corner?

I like the effect here. Ideally i woul like to have seen more tecture on the challace, but I suspect that would also make the effect difficult to produce

Very Cool!
The blue light? gets a bit lost on the blue background, and Blue and Red artifact the most on jpeg compression. Try it with the bottom 1/4 cropped off maybe ?

Nice abstract picture. I like the lighting effect and the blue background. Seems to contain some distracting artifact that might be cleaned up with some noise reduction.

This is a neat picture, but for me, it's just lacking something, like a definite interest point or an eyecatching, thought-provoking title, perhaps. It's nice to look at though.
