Canon D60, 100 macro, cable release and some patience. It was a windy day but I like the half and half diagonal reds and greens with a little bit of insect focal point

This is a great shot for this challenge. Though the insect is the focal point, the green and red are so predominant in the shot that it really sets the stage or mood, I believe. As I mentioned during voting, I like the depth of field that you used. It really serves to make the insect "pop" if you will, and stand out clearly. The diagonal lines give the shot some "motion" and it is not stagnant or static. The eyes rest on the insect, but are still pulled "down" some by the contrasting lines. The lighting and focus work well. though the back part of the bug seems a bit soft, it is nothing major, I think, unless you sit and stare at the picture for some time as I have been doing. :-)

I think it may be slightly more balanced if the bug was lower and to the left more, but I'm not sure. As it is, it feels as if he could leap out of the frame at any moment, and that could be a good thing. For stability, though, lower and left.

A great shot; one you can be proud of I think. Best to you in future challenges.

Now THAT'S fun! Brilliant red with a green that's not so bright. The background serves as a better counterpoint to that red than the grasshopper does. Very good composition!

very cool!

Love the subject. The soft focus in the foreground is somewhat distracting, tho.

I think I would have focused on the flower and eliminated the grasshopper. The colors are great.

this grasshopper is dead.. you have tampered with nature and that is a sin. go beg for forgiveness...7

The front focal blur rather eye-drawing, which works in the sense that it draws you more to the red/green contrast but does sort of take away from any focus on the bug.

Looks over saturated but it's still a great pic. Pretty incredible actually. Nice Job!

Great capture and composition. Maybe a little over exposed by a 1/2 stop or so. The values in the grasshopper could be a little richer. This is one of my favorites. -T

Just for your info - grasshopper looks washed out on my screen. Great DOF.

I really like the depth of field you have chosen on this. The "blurriness" balances itself because the front is blurring and the background is blurry. Very nicely done!!!

I like this shot! im not sure the forground stuff helps..

I like how the whole shot is in complementary colors, but that isn't really the focus of the shot. I kind of breaks up the monotony to have the grasshopper in there. 7.

I find the severely out-of-focus flowers in the front to be distracting. They're big enough to draw the eye away from the main subject, and yet disturbingly unfocussed. A deeper dof might have brought them into focus, or a different crop made them less central?

excellent use of shallow depth of field... the complementary colors theme is strong as well. this particular view has a nice surreal feeling to it with the thin plane of focus. = 8
