I really like the white whites of Mr. Tiger II. See how the white of his face and eyebrow make his gaze focused? In the BW version he is just spacing out, now he is really looking intently AT something. Gives him a purpose and creates some tension in his forelimbs like he might get up and get it. The increased whites makes his hands grip the ground. I think you have added some implied acton here, who cares if you lost a bit of fur detail?

I agree the white fur has lost some detail but the backgound is a major improvement. The whiskers stand out extermely well too.

the first thing i notice is the white fur on the tiger, not sure its a good or bad thing but it def. stands out to me. I think it might be slightly blown out. Seeing your original i would say that this is def. a tough shot to covert to black and white without the aid of levels or curves so I would say as far as tonal range you have a few white, not too many light greys, a lot of dark greys and blacks. Good job with the exercise, now to bring the image to its full potential feel free to go ahead and do levels and curves to improve it.

If you want to add more punch with contrast, levels/curves would be the way to go (though you may avoided those here given the exercise instructions).

I like the face this way...makes the hair on the tiger stand out more to me. I just think it looses more detail on the front chest area. Still very nice.

What an awesome subject. I do think that maybe you could pull some more variations out of the darker tones. The animals face, especially around his eye, is very well done.
