I love this photo - I would just remove the red spot reflecting from the eye on the left side.

I'm a lover of the dark pictures and this certainly is among those. The lack of light makes your eye yearn for what light is there and this brings you directly to his watchful eye. Good job.

Yes this would be spot lighting. It draws the veiwer straight to the subject. It also gives you more of a personal feeling than other lighting. Only the lighted subject is available. This is probably one of the most emotional forms of lighting. Very nice example.
