Thanks all for your comments...
I was on my way home from the office after a few beers when I grabbed this shot... forgetting to manage my exposure properly. Fortunately I shot in RAW and was able to produce this JPG. I actually had to compensate exposure by 2.5 stops!! (Kudos to the 20D for managing to produce a usable image at ISO800 with this amount of 'saving' applied)
I enjoyed this challenge and felt that this photo represented an improvement in my approach to photography. I actually waited and chose my moment with some thought and care and it paid off (to me at least) I tried to get a scene with a story, the passers by interacting with the busker. I was very happy to achieve this.
In answer to some of the comments regarding the lady in the distance. I was not particularly factoring her in to the shot, focusing mainly on the foreground interest but in my opinion she adds to the scene. (I would not clone her out)

You waited for the right time to capture this. great response from passing couple and what a cute dress with the lady past the gate or door. A very nice b/w. Bumping up. |

Very nice. Effective composition and a powerful capture of the connection between the musician and the passing couple. Eye contact, both ways. Also a meticulously exposed and processed image. 9 |

There's just so much to look at here, it's great. Ignoring the challenge, I want to know where the girl in the tunnel is going, why the station is so empty, what's making the couple smile... Any picture which makes people think is good. 9 |

We knew there were going to be "street performer" pictures. This one is second best in my mind. I love the addition of the two spectators watching as they walk by hand-in-hand. The tonality and contrast are done well. 8. |

nice how the wide angle distortion played with the curvature of the wall to match the ceiling. Good background support with the couple looking/smiling at the musician. And the cute waist walking in the background with object in hand. Nice job.... |

Nice candid, not sure about the slightly tilted camera angle. Missing an extra something I can't really put my finger on. |
