FIRST IMPRESSION: The fence is a very prominent feature here, and the grass needs watering. The background is 'reached' by the fence, which does a good job of leading the eye.
CHALLENGE: On a color wheel, you would determine complimentary colors by looking at the opposite side from the primary color you use - or may be determined by figuring which two colors are not involved with the color you've picked, i.e. Green= yellow + blue, so red is not involved. Given how pale the colors are in this photo, and that the gray fence is the focal point to me, the challenge is not met especially well.
COMPOSITION: Again, the fence is the focal point - the photo has good focus, and the fence leads the eye to the trees in the background. The Dormitory is difficult to see for the fence.
TECHNICAL: Depth of field is good - the focus difference between the foreground and background is quite distinct.
CONCLUSION: An attempt worth taking, unfortunately not executed as well as it could have been. My suggestion for a shot like this would be, if the colors of the grass and the dorm are to contrast each other, this shot might have been better received had you stood on the other side of the fence, as in the same side as the dorm.
Thanks for sharing and good luck in future challenges!

Nice point of view. The fence really steals the show here. |

I don't really see the use of complementary colors here -- is it supposed to be red and green? |

Nice depth of field, but I can't figure out what the picture means or where the complimentary colors are. |

if the red brick and green grass are to be the comp colors, it doesn;t work here as the fence is the main subject.. not the colored items |

Erm. Okay, the house is vaguely red-brick vs green-grass, I guess, but sicne the focal point appears to be far more on the fence I think this misses the opportunity of topical display. Plus a healthier lawn might have worked better for that. |

I don't think that this foto has met the challenge. I do not see any complementary colours here, let alone the one colour enhancing the other. Please excuse me If I have made a mistake and there is are complementary colours here |

I'm not sure I get the meaning here, but good try, and good luck. |

I like the shallow depth of field that you use, but the colors seem a bit muted to me. Maybe some saturation would help? |

I'm looking for the complementary colors here, and I really don't see them. If you send me an email explaining where they are (if I just missed them), I'll come back and look again and certainly revise your score. |

I don't see the complementary colors in this, so I have to grade you down a bit. There's definitely green, and I could push it to say yellow in the lawn, but I don't see any other real colors besides brown and silver. In this challenge I'm grading people who put the colors front and center higher than those who don't (simply to save my sanity and give me SOMETHING to grade on, to winnow the photos before considering Overall Quality). |

I can't see where this photo meets the challenge... I am also having trouble finding interest in what I'm looking at.... = 1 |
