I tried to capture the emotion of anguish and turmoil of receiving bad news [not that I received any...] The editing was also to try and capture the coldness and lonliness felt when receiving bad news.

Greetings from the Critique Club

The first thing that came to my mind when I saw this picture was "concentration camp". You can almost feel the agony this picture portrays. The choice of sepia is perfect for the subject. I have seen many concentration camp pictures and I really think this is a lot like them. I don't mean that in a bad way, on the contrary. This picture has managed to stir almost the same feelings and thoughts in me. That is always a good thing, you've made your point. Perhaps that is not at all what you were going for but you've succeeded anyway.
I like the compostion and the exposure is pretty balanced as well. Good job. I really think this picture should have done better.
If you have any questions or comments about this critique, please feel free to PM me.

Interesting emotionally, but I think it could have been improved technically. A bit more contrast would have helped the overall flatness of the image. Good work.

This would be a more emotive photograph if the look on the man's face were a bit more intense &/or distinct. Based only on his facial expression I can't rule out the possibility that he's been photographed while beginning to yawn. A visible source of his emotion (e.g. a stack of bills, a fallen telephone receiver, etc.) would also increase the impact. Higher contrast and perhaps a bit of burning / darkening would also help to improve this image.

Good shot and great model. I find the sheet a bit much, although I can concede its importance to the mood. It's just a little too obvious and detracts form the rest of the image.

THAT should be the photo in psych textbooks for depression or, better yet, despair. It really captures all the emotion that's going on. I think the contrasts in textures are phenomenal. Would love to see a series of photos of different emotions shot in this vein.

Very well executed good use of light source and the tonal range is just wonderful. The crop might just be too tight. (9)

Technically not very convincing, rather dull-looking sepia shot. Good idea though and, to me, very much a "Birdy"-inspired shot. If it wasn't for the western look and the solid wall background, this could be from Guantanamo...

While he is nude, it doesn't look like a nude shot to me. "Desperation" would be more like it as a challenge topic.

Just a dude's opinion who's never even tried nude before, so don't take it too hard ;-)

Very expressive, the sepia really adds to the pic. I can't think of anything to change.

I like the tone of this photo, but it seems sad. I don't know how the people here will react to this photo. I hope well, good luck.

Interesting photo, makes you wonder about it , which is good. One might think this man could be a prisoner of war. Good job.

Toning works for this image, wish there was just slightly more contrast. Crop, composition and lighting work. POV excellent. 7 - good luck in the challenge!

This reminds me of a pow picture, especially since the model is slim. Maybe some more contrast would add a bit mystery to the shot.

I think what sets me off about this image is the cloth on the floor, it makes it seem more posed than this despair might bring to the model. I also do not like the placemetn of the hands on the face.

the emotion of dispair is large and it seems kind of caged in this tight crop. Given the model alittle room to mourn imho would have given the image a bit more impact.

Alone, sad, horror, depression. I have been there I think that is why I see it so clearly here.

Sad desperate shot. It definitely evokes the mood of the title. I'd like to see maybe a less tighter crop, but maybe that "boxed in" feeling was your intent.

ALthough a picture like this isn't original in concept, the quality of the pose is intriguing. I like this picture alot.

more of the environment in the shot would have made this stronger, i.e. not as closely cropped.

Ok, will do. I'll get the lights. Photographically well done, but sorry, I am just not a fan fo the "wreched me" type shots, not a fan of male nudes either, but there's plenty of both out there, so good luck.
