 When i first read the challenge's description, i knew exactly what i wanted to shoot. Only problem was time.

So in a rush, on my way back from work, i stoped at the groceries store and picked up what my mind had shown me. After a few tries and some very bad lighting (still waiting on my gear), this is the best i could come up with.

Lots of mistakes in the shot, especially the bad ligthing from the top (single light source with weak left reflection on white board). Composition could have been slightly better, and the DOF is weak. For some reason, i couldn't get the effect i was looking for. In my mine, 5,6 would be perfect, but it turns out even 2.2 wasn't exactly what i was looking for, to give the cheese the deserved attention. Looks more like the grapes are the subject... damn yellow colour.. arg!

Oh well, thanks for voting! I hope to get lots of good comments!

work: Adjusted level and curves, went on with colours and contrast. Did some sharpeness adjustments, crop and rotation adjustment, frame and voilà!

i like this image. makes me think of a classy, relaxed restaurant with romantic lighting and really good food.. lol anyway, nice job. the only negative to me is the glass full of grapes. i would have left those grapes out. and perhaps it would have been better if you had left the plant out of the background too. it's a bit distracting.

Thank you! I was hoping for a top 10, but heck, this is great none the less. Learned a lot about lighting and photoshop adjustments as well! awesome!

This is an extremely stylish still life. The inclusion of the living greenery in the BG is a wonderful touch. Good use of limited DOF to delineate the cheese as the main subject and avoid busy confusion. While on first glance there appeared to be an unwanted highlight of yellow on the plant (easily remedied with spot editing not allowed here), after looking at it, I thought of it as an accent mark over the cheese. With or without the "accent", this is superb and one of my picks to ribbon. Well done!

The light is a bit too harsh, otherwise a lovely composition - you could have filled some of the wine into the glass though. 8.

A well executed classy capture. It has a very professional look to it, like something you would see in a cooking book or tourist brochere. The lighting seems perfect to me, the image is well composed and the objects in the image all feel well balanced.

I like this because I can almost taste the bread and grapes and cheese, but not the wine because I haven't ever tried wine before. I like the warmth and richness; nice colors. Border works well too.

I like the crispness of the foreground items, the grapes inside the wine glass are a good addition (remove the big stem next time).

The best still life in my opinion. The wine and grapes in the background are a little OOF. It probably could have worked except OOF words are distracting to me. Still, an 8.

nice set up. The light sweems a little bright or not angled properly. The grapes in the glass are great up upfront are too bright, I think this could have a more dramatic feel to it.

Beautiful photograph. It should be featured in a food magazine. The sharpness of the image is right where it should be; my eye immediately goes to the cheese, then the grapes, and then through the rest of the photo.

I think with the bread, the wine and grapes, the main focus really isn't on the cheese, although it is a nicely staged and executed shot.

Looks like something that could easily be in a magazine -- very nicely lit! My only suggestion would have been to keep all of the grapes in the frame at the bottom.
