 Not being Catholic, I went to nearby St. Monica's and asked the deacon if I could borrow a rosary. He gave me this plastic one that they have available for mass. I really got embarassed when I asked him if he had an old, retired chalice I could borrow. He grinned that rosy cheeked Irish grin and set me straight on that one. I got even more embarassed when I asked him if I could possibly have a wafer (host.) That's when he explained that the host is not a symbol for the body of Christ, but is the body of Christ and can never be used as a prop in anything. I quickly substituted the water cracker you see here. I hope no one takes offense at this whimsical take on this challenge. I meant it in good clean fun.

First off i have to say, i love the story that goes with this pcture. Having a catholic family who are very involved in the church - i am sure Father had a chuckle at your requests over dinner.

On to the picture:
Nice theme, i missed the joke voting, but if you have every eaten monastry cheese, even without the joke the rosary makes sense.
As far as a still life goes, this is a very nice one. The cross balance with the dark wine of a light palete, which prevents the red wine from seaming out of place.
I image you put the plant in to break the background from the wine? The plant is the only part of the setup that does not work props wise. It doesn't have a "reason" to be with the cheese and the wine (other than the background thing). May i sugest a dark green background to do what the leaves did. Or who knows, a stain glass window would have worked great (because we all carry one of those around in our back pocket.)

A few people have said you needed a babystep to the left - i would say you would have been better off with a baby step backwards. That way you wouldnt have cropped the gouda or the cracker out of the frame.

Lighting is very nice, good use of natural light. I would have liked a little spot light to aleviate the cast in the cut out of the gouda a little bit.

Focus and colour are great - a very nice piece over all.

I like that cross on the cheese, it's a nice decoration. The upper right hand corner looks a little too empty, maybe you could have moved the plant to the other side? 9.

Reminds me of my younger days.. I love this image - very well done. :) I do think that maybe the plant in the background distracts a bit, but if it was gone, the image would be missing something. I gave this a 9.

I'm hungry. Nice shot of all the elements. You tend to look at the cross first and the big black space in the background is overpowering. I would have scored it better if that was reduced. 7

A humorous touch that adds to the appeal of an already nice still life. I would have preferred to see the shadow eliminated on the cheese wheel to the left. Reflections on the glass are hell too, but not much to do in basic editing about that. Nice job.

not sure that the reflections in the glass are helping this image. blocking the direct light with a piece of cardboard is a cheap fix--also, a polarizer would help.

It took me a minute but I got it. Very clever idea and the cheese detail is good. I'm a bit distracted by the dark area in the top right.

Nice lighting, focus and theme. The only thing I don't like is the plant behind the glass of wine. I don't know if this makes sense, but the picture seems a little left heavy.

Wonderful detail and texture throughout the photo. The composition is pretty good although the camera could be moved just an inch or so to the left to balance it out.

Cheesy title but a good photo. Nice contrasts, good colors, decent composition. Would be stronger without the distracting leaves.

I'd leave off the cross. I like the set up and the rich dark tones of it. Maybe scoot to the left so the gouda isn't cropped out. The lighting is nice and I like the glint on the wine glass.
