I was walking down the alley behind the office building I work in when I saw one of the maintenance workers in the loading bay. I gave him a wave, and said, "Hi". He returned the same, in kind. I paused, and commented on the beautiful weather. He approached, emerging from the shadows of the loading bay, and agreed. We both looked up the alley, to the sky, as if the subject of our small-talk required confirmation. It was at that moment I saw them, the shoes, brown, worn, weathered. I had found the subject of my entry for the Shoes challenge. Pleased with my discovery, I pointed to the dangling orphans and looked to the wisened old maintenance worker, words weren't necessary. He looked me in the eye, and with a sly, half-smile said, "They've been up there for a year." Pleased once again, I was given the title that would hang above my entry as the bloodthirsty voters of DPC undoubtedly hammer it with fives, and fours. The maintenance worker will never know what he's given me. Perhaps it's all for the best. |

Great story behind this, got to love those maintenance workers, they are good to chat with, they give you titles, and even are in most porno films.

great shot man. should have placed higher IMO.
i read some blogs about shoes hanging from lines, and they speculate it means there's a drug dealer in the area. do a google on it.

Well slippy, I know how you feel. Very similar shots and accidental circumstances in finding it. Next time! |

great shot, slippy, wish it had scored higher. then again, i wish mine had scored higher, too. really crappy voting in this one, like everybody stepped in a pile of $4i+ and then wiped it off on the votes...grrrr! |

I think if you could have chose a different color shoe it would have been better. Although they kind of stand out I wish they could stand out a little more. However you're following the rule of thirds which is good! Good luck. |

Interesting idea. The colors are nice, and I don't think there's really anything you need to change about it. Hopefully you got the shoes down! |

Nice composition and above average in the challenge but I dunno... kindof boring to look at, needs something to make it pop a bit more, like a seagull trying to steal the shoes or something... 6 from me. |

Hahaha.... There are two pairs on a powerline close to my house! Ironically, one pair is masculine and the other is feminine... ;) I DO sort of wonder if there's a story behind them.
Anyways, nice contrast. |

Great contrast and execution. I've always wondered what compels people to do this to old shoes. Hmmmm... 7 |
