Greetings from the Critique Club~ :~)

My first thought on this photo is that it has good composition and the title is certainly fitting of the challenge. I think that the main problem is the lighting which creates under exposure and quality of the shot. You could have even shown a spotlight on them from an angle and added to not only the ability to see them, but added another element of interest.

If the items were placed on a white or black surface, the grain of the wood of the table would have been less of a distraction. The varying heights are good and the fact that you have an odd number of items works better since they don't have a specific placement value. It would have served you better had there been more negative space on either the right or the left of the collection of items. I might've even had a bit more on top as well. It looks a bit tight, cropped as it is.

You could have possibly taken advantage of more post editing tools as this was an Advanced Editing challenge. The imagination is there, so maybe if it were tweaked, this might have a winning combination.

Hope you find this helpful! All the best, Judy

Good composition and I think it fit the challenge well. IMHO though the score it received was probably due more to the quality of the image than the subject matter (I know that there are some voters who aren't always objective when it comes to some types of shots). It's too dark, too grainy, and it seems a little too tilted to me to be on purpose and not quite tilted enough to be artistic (if you know what I mean). Again, I think it was a good idea, it just suffered for technical reasons.

a little dark but certainly caught my attention, nice to see some people not afraid to photograph things that society doesn't always agree with/ accept

A nice low key effect which may be lost on many voters. They will not associate the low key feel with the negative emotions and meanings. 8

The white powder is overexposed, and the rest of the image is underexposed. Better light would do a lot for this image.

A bit too dark. A spot light on the subject would've made this a very nice photo.

nice idea but poor execution. could be improved by more time spent on lighting and post-editing.

Good composition, but the photo is a tad too dark and too noisy for my taste. Really like the placement of the objects and everything appears to be in focus.

Is everything meant to tilt to the right?

if gritty was what you were gunning for, I am afraid you instead made it to poor quality instead.

For me, this photo is a bit too dark and the white powder an almost luminscent white. I do like the graininess of the shot however.

Nice shot, very dramatic. The low contrast helps in creating the sensation of decay. 9

very dark and grainy, but the "drugs" are blown out. I like your idea but I think you should have gone farther with it. work on the lighting and get a polorizer filter to help with that nasty reflection in the left glass

I was going to use this theme also, but was afraid the feds or long lost friends would be knocking at my door after they saw my stash. ;) I would have played with it a little to get the bottle to be absolutely vertical and maybe lightened things up a little.

Would like it better with a little more light on the bottle and glass...

Too dark. I think that's exactly what it was all about, but it's too dark and too noisy, IMHO.

Excellent job on this photo. The darkness and grain add greatly to the mood.
