 Last-minute photograph of an hourglass backlit by natural light coming through the venetian blinds. I'll probably get a few comments about the non-level black/white stripe in the background, but the light outside has changed so much that re-shooting this isn't viable. I have mixed feelings about the crop. I think that this may look better if I'd have centered the hourglass in the frame, but then the uneven illumination in the background looked close enough to symmetrical that the negative slope looked bad; I think that the wider crop looks more balanced.

Goals: I'd like this image to score in the 6.5 range, but I'm not sure how well abstracts are received at DPC.

I find your crop interesting on this shot. Nice pattern produced by the light in the glass.

This is very artistic although I suspect it won't go down too well with this audience. I love the play of light but am a tad distracted by the sloping white background

Assuming this is an hourglass, it has to be the most interesting crop of one I have ever seen. Nice reflections & distortions in it. 6

fabulous reflections in the glass. the background doesn't seem very related, or maybe i'm missing something. i love the crop.

the abstract always gets punished. and there are too many distracting elements here to work, so I can't help you out.

Love this, B&W is great, the Out of focus background is bang on and the framing is perfect. I'd love to be able to take classy simple images like this. My only 10 so far

would like to have seen it cropped more.. whats the need for the space on the right.. just me though -- I still give it a 9

the picture seems to be slanted and while it's interesting with the shape in there I don't think it's the best representation of dark and light...there seems to be a lot of gray area.

This is beautiful! Love the composition. The background looks a bit grainy though - and for this type of shot, I would think that everything would be smooth & silky & crisp. Still - a very minor complaint. :-) 8
