Challenge: Shoes (Basic Editing III)
Camera: Canon PowerShot SD300
Location: Aruba
Date: Aug 28, 2005

Took a picture of my feet enjoying the soft white sand of Eagle Beach in Aruba this past weekend. Just got back, and my friend suggested that I enter it in this week's challenge, so here it is! A spontaneous entry of a photo from a very spontaneous trip. =)

Cropped the photo to remove a small family playing in the sand in the upper right corner. Couldn't get rid of all the disrupted sand without losing all of the blue of the water, so I left the little bit in... altho it's driving me crazy...
Adjusted the contrast a little to bring out the feet a little more.

Thanks for all the comments! I just wanted to take a picture of the sand and the water, not with the challenge in mind, and just thought I'd throw it out there to see what comments I would get. It's actually my first entry, and I would love some advice on how to do all the stuff people mentioned. I just cropped the photo and made it smaller to fit the max file size requirement. For future reference on photo size, how do I maximize the size? Also, how can I avoid looking too cropped when trying to eliminate distracting elements from the photo? Any insights would be helpful to this complete beginner. Thanks again!

A little larger, please! Beautiful scene, but it doesn't meet the challenge for me. Sorry!

Since the subject is shoes ( being something that we use to cover and protect our feet) I can't say this meets the challenge . It would be like doing a challenge on " clothes" and everyone entering nude photos. Other than that it a decent photograph, but a lttle too tightly cropped.

I like the picture, but I think it would have fit the challenge better if it were shoes instead of feet.

too small - use the 640 pixels

Should that be Eau Naturelle?
May have done better in a feet challenge - or should that be feat to shoehorn this into the shoes challenge.
Sorry for my incomprehensible rambling

This is beautiful, of course you're going to hear over and over how small it is, and perhaps the lack of shoes. I like whites and faint blues and the interesting lighting on the feet.

Appears to side step the challenge theme.

Here is another "feet are shoes too" entry. No they're not. No more than hands are gloves. As for the composition: I like the distant light blue shade, but there is no other adjacent color to compliment it (the feet, because of their earth tones and position are a non-entity in terms of color.) This would have come across better as a high key B&W. Perhaps a little more ankle showing and all four borders are white with a gradual fade into the lines, shades and textures as the viewer's eyes move toward the center of the frame. Or one other fix would be to leave it in color, but add one nicely colored conch shell to the center of the upper right quadrent. While this is true minimalism ... it is too minimalism. We need more info. 4.

a bare foot kind of misses the purpose of the challenge. In the future, try for a 500pxl minimum so you are not scored down for having a small image.
The feet seem very pixelated.

I like this picture even though it's somewhat plain you follow the rule of thirds. I like how the water is blue and eventually turns clear. i like how there is no background distracting it. I also like the white sand.. Great job. Good luck!

DNMC, no shoes, feet, you wear shoes on your feet, that's barefoot, without shoes, shoeless. Use the full 640 pixels allowed and you'll score better, well, if you meet the challenge, that is.

Nice shot, but doesn't meet the challenge of shoes.

Wow.. what a nice beach. But where are the shoes. Those are feet not shoes.

This picture seems to be a little rough. I can see the pixels. If it was a little smoother then I would have voted higher.

the beaches were you live are much nicer than the beaches were I live, most true. I think you could have tried something more creative, or perhaps just cropped this on differently. More horizon visible perhaps.
