This first challenge was a real learning experience. I thought there was enough contrast between the shadow and the rest of the photo. I do see what some said about it needing to pop more. I guess being relatively new to Photoshop and all it has to offer was clear, as in playing with this photo since, I realize it had much more potential. Live and learn. But thanks to all for the helpful comments. My nephew was glad to be my subject and I am thankful that even though it didn't score well, you all had nice things to say about him and the portrait itself. As for the low score, I agree, it wasn't contrast-y enough.

Values seem similar rather than high contrast, but a nice captured moment - and he has a great smile. |

Nice portrait, although a little soft. Lighting feels a bit flat. 8. |

Nice, heartwarming portrait. I do not see a whole lot of contrast however, perhaps your contrast focus was between the boy and his shadow? I can't really tell. That said, your model has a wonderful expression, the lighting looks pretty good, the focus looks a bit soft, but I'm not sure if that's intentional or not. Either way I don't think it takes away from the image. I'm not sure whether black & white was the best tone for this picture - perhaps a choice brought on by the challenge? Black & white does seem to be the option of choice when going for a high contrast. All in all I gave it a 5. |

The image is very clear, and the boys expression is wonderful, but the image itself is very flat. I don't think this quite brings out the supbject of high contrast. |

Nice pic, lovely looking young man.
Sorry but this is a monotone acromatic pic not a high contrast one. High contrast is achieved by combining red/cyan OR (deep)blue/yellow OR green/magenta OR for the ultimate high contrast, black/white. Yours is a mix of grays and black with absolutely no whites. |

Darling expression. I think you could up the contrast even more for more impact. |

lighting seems a bit flat. more contrast would make this shot really pop. |
