I haven't participated for a while, so I just couldn't seem to get inspired to take something for this challenge. Was going to just let it pass me by, when I noticed this curvy place by the river, where I was playing with my son. Went back later in the day today to take some pics and include myself in some way. Tried many different "poses" and, was happy with this one, so I stopped here and went home. It was quite fun, apart from being stared at by some passersby!

G'day from the Critique Club

You have done well with this photo. The tones are most definitely within the high contrast range. The stop action of the movement is well handled.

I find my eyes are constantly drawn to the splashing of the toes. That is helped by the whole layout of this image. That is, the angle of the pier pointing towards the model (yourself) and the pose in which you have chosen with your arms and your eyes pointing to the toes. Well done on that respect.

Now for the areas that I feel could have improved the score of this image. I feel the hat could be removed. Yes, it looks like it may have been a cold day but I think with the wind obviously moving the water, the movement of the hair will have added impact even in a small way.

The edge across the bottom would have been better cropped out to put all the focus on the main subject instead of detracting from it.

I would also like to have seen maybe a zoomed out composition with more vacant area to the right of the model to add that extra impact also. This would make people wonder more about the shot and what the woman may have been contemplating. As it is, your expression (although seeming to be joyed) tells too much and prevents the viewer from having to think. When you get the viewer to think about your image than you have more than succeeded.

In summary....you look great in photos and you are definitely on the right track. I would love to see a reshoot of this series. Please let me know when you have done so.

Some good contrast and I like the way your photo makes me feel like I'm looking at a photo from the 1930's - would have done well in the time capsule challenge.

Well composed and interesting image. Encourages the viewer to think about what might be going on; I like that. Maybe the tiny glimpse of (paving? jetty?) at the bottom would be better cropped out? 7

Good tonal range. Compostion feels a little awkward. 9.

This is really beautiful. I love the movement of the water and the tones of the image. Her pose and expression meld so well with the swirling water. Great job.

Second stop on your shot and I must say... the detail for a black and white is great. The imagery is amazing....bumping this up to an --- 8 ---

Ah, a scene from the 20s! Very classic-looking. I like the composition a lot. Good work!

A lovely capture. I'd have liked a tighter cropto the left, and more water to the right. 9.

I like the concept, but I'd cropped it differently. Also, watch the bottom border...

Although there are a lot of grays in this shot, it still has a hc feel to it. I think mostly because of the contrast between her back and the water. nice job

I gave this a 9 without hesitation and now that I'm reviewing it for comment, I stand by my first response. The simplicity of it is stunning and the contrast is great. I like the human element amidst the natural world of the water. Striking and lovely!!

Good Idea. Puttng the woman in the lower left would have help improve the compostion, as it is what is below and to her left seems wasted and pulls my eye away from her. The waves in the upper left also pull my attention away from her - so I lose the cental theme of the image. The wall(?) at the bottom does not add to the iamge - too faint to be a frame of any kind.
