Greetings from the Critique Club:

You chose a suberbly beautiful subject for your entry in the High Contrast Challenge. Those classic features could take the emphasis on line and contour and still win through.

It is the background that troubles me. It competes tremendously with the subject, "Miss Brown," and leaves the viewer confused as to what you want the viewer to look at. I'm not the one to suggest what background you should use; you know your territory, I don't. But I would suggest that with a model like that, and with High Contgrast as an objective, you simple the background down to concentrate attention on the model.

Still, it's a powerful image and I'm delighted to have had the chance to study and enjoy it.

I like the area around the eyes and the background is pretty good. For me though, the white is overly done.

Good contrast, this is the kind of contrast I envision with a portrait.

contrast has removed definition... nice artistic effect but a little too blown out... :)

I'm not sure high contrast such as this really plays to the strength of this image. Much of the woman's facial details are lost to the blanketing white and I feel that is to the detriment. Facial expressions can bring so much to an image and its hard to determine what expression she is wearing. It does of course have quite a bit of contrast but I think conforming this image to the challenge makes it miss out on being something better. The face seems to have good focus and the positioning is nice. I gave it a 5, but I think it may have done better in another challenge using a different technique.

Great use of high contrast to create a striking portrait.

Certainly high contrast, but IMHO the light areas are too bright - and there's too much darkness/shadows to be high key (to justify the highlights).

I wish we could see a little more detail on her face.

This is high contrast but almost to the point of over exposure. I love her eyes and the semi profile of the shot. Maybe tone it down a smidge.
