Challenge: Branch (Basic Editing III)
Camera: Canon EOS-300D Rebel
Lens: Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II
Location: Train Yard
Date: Sep 3, 2005
Aperture: f/2.0
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/4000
Galleries: Landscape, Transportation
Date Uploaded: Sep 5, 2005

Experimenting with my new 55mm f-1.8 lens.
Rendered levels on each of red, green, blue and grouped with hue/sat change on each as well.
Applied border, resized, sharpened (75%, .75, 1), saved for web.

New renovations at an old train-yard building now allow people to get close to the tracks without getting too close to the homeless. If you work for the rail-company, I was not on the tracks--it's all done with the lens.

I feel this is a competent photo. I like the lines and colors. I like that the switch flag just happened to be set for the branch line. I'll predict a 5.6 for DPC--but I bet I could sell it to the bar/restaurant that just opened....hmmmm.

Having been chased by my Grandmother with a switch - a small branch from a bush or tree - I do know where you were going with this and why you titled it sw!tch. And the green ones hurt the most, being flexible and whip like. As a matter of fact she chased me near the train tracks, often. How did you know? ; )

A nice picture, though the little green switch kind of draws attention from the train tracks which I would've liked to be more focused on. The lighting and focus is good though.

An inventive and interesting take on the theme. Nice composition of elements: line in the tracks and shape of the bridge and the form in the switch apparatus. The focus on the switch seems slightly off though. Take the writing on the box beside it as an indication. 7

Inventive but meets challenge well, needs some color, maybe a train? 8

DOF doesn't work for me on this one. I get dizzy.

Nice use of depth of field. This is a nice take on "branch". I am not crazy about the slight blurring around the border.

Aparently that green thing is a switch and it is the subject of your photo. I don't know enough about railroading to determine if that green thing is the subject. INHO, I would have focused in on the tracks because they "branch", and switches, well "switch".

This picture is different fromt he others which is why I like it so much. It also is in focus and I like how the closer things are in focus and the things in the back arent

I think a little more DOF would have helped here. You could have switched your camera to Aperature Priority and increased your DOF by stopping down the aperature to a smaller size (larger number). It just fades to a blur too fast for me. But it's a good effort, and I'll go with 6. (If you already know all this, please forgive my pedantry.)

I feel that the main subject here is the switch - being located in the framing where it is, and being green. I would not have been bored with the branches of the train tracks - that seems more appropriate.

Not sure how the switch is related to branch. The RR tracks are so I will give you that. Really think a larger DOF would work well for this image.

the idea is very nice but if you could crop your frame I think it becomes better...6

Pic is more about the switch than the branch ... which is oof

I almost took a very similar shot - but mine wouldn't have been half this good. Great focus, DOF, and tones.
