Greetings from the Critique Club!!
What an amazing capture! The sharpness of the birds face and the flower, the movement in the wings, the colors, the composition, all perfect IMO. It seems there were a few voters who voted low on animal portraits, and many really good photos like yours suffered. I do not see anything this photo needs in the way of improvement.
Excellent job and keep shooting!

You forgot one.
Portrait - a representation of a person or group or animal on a two-dimensional medium that typically also shows some aspect symbolic of the subject. |

And your reason for this is why? Yes, you are right and I don't agree with you. Portrait can be other then a person and no where did it say it had to be a person. |

would have liked a bit more saturation in the orange and yellow channels to bring out more vibrance to the photo |

some say this wouldn't be a portrait. I don't see why not. It's nice too. That's so amazing. |

It's not a person...it's not even in portrait orientation. Dang, I'd have to give this a 1 if it weren't so damn good. I'm just kidding about the stuff above. Good capture. I am going to knock it a bit, but you still get a 7. |

Beautiful photot and I wish I had taken it - I would also have entered it - I will give higher scores for those who managed to get recalcitrant people to pose for them though |

This is the best portrait of a hummingbird I have ever seen. Can't wait to find out what camera you are using. Focus is right where it should be on his head, blurring of wings is great and all colors are too. If he had been up a bit higher so his beak was straight on with the flower, I would have scored it 11 , LOL, instead I have to give you a 10. |

Great Capture. I'm afrain that this will get marked down because people believe that a portrait can be of people, but in reality, a portrait is a photo of basically anything. This is great. Maybe if you could get a little more depth of the field. Still, a 9 |

Very good photo, but didn't feel it was in the spirit of the challenge. Felt like it would be unfare to others to give the score it probably deserved IMO. |

Motion blur in a portrait? If you had managed to stop the motion in the wngs you would have realy impressed me. This is definately the most challenging poartait to capture I have seen so far in the challenge. Best of luck with the Non-Human portait. I think the voters will eat you alive with does not fit the challenge. So I vote higher than usual to hold a fraction of the ingnorance at bay. Wonderfull work, and nicely done!!! |

Quite a fantastic camera you must have, however its a portrait contest, and im one of those buttholes that thought it should include a human subject. |
