This would have been a good branch entry. I like the contrast of colors and the simplicity of the single tree. Nicely done.

Really nice shot! Love the tones. Good composition and pretty good lighting (I realize in basic editing, there's a lot you can't fix - like the washed out areas of the sky/background). I'd have probably scored it a 6-7.

EDIT: Sorry, didn't read the whole thread. I realize now you probably used the dodge brush to lighten the center. Personally, I think it would be better without the haloed glow.
