This historic game, played in Philadelphia on February 10, 1996, was the first to be won by a chess-playing computer against a reigning world champion under tournament conditions. This photograph depicts the board position after the 10th move of Game 1. While Kasparov rebounded by winning 3 and drawing 2 of the 5 remaining games, in a 1997 rematch Deep Blue returned stronger than ever and took the match.

This was the best I could do without having a wide-view lens at my disposal. The shot was taken at 18mm (which translates to just under 29mm on a 350D). I found this angle of view optimal for achieving any sort of perspective effect. (Raising the back of the board would reduce the perspective effect by bring the furthest squares closer to the lens, whereas lowering the angle much further would flatten the board too much and remove visibility of the background pieces.)

The lighting on the pieces is professional quality. Although the black pieces are a bit lost the effect is great and scores well

Excellent idea. I almost used my glass staunton set. Great angle nailed this challenge.

Interesting title, as a hcess player, it immediately drew my attention....good lighting setup, this could've worked really well in the 'contrast' competition as well.

Not big on the subject or anything but the light is really nice in this photo.
