Greetings from the Critique Club
By Inspzil
Composition - This looks like a shot that might've been better from a few feet back. The little motion blur isn't too distracting, but not being able to see what the performers are doing is. Definitely get the idea of the sound stuff though. The percussion instruments in the front I'm sure are drumming out something thru the low buzz of the semi-interested crowd. Just guessing of course. It's difficult to visualize what the guy, who we can only see about half of, is doing.
Technical - I mentioned some motion blur. With the shutter speed around 1/100, it's easy to get motion blur and even easier with a handheld shot. Unfortunately that's not a good thing in this case. The exposure is pretty good. No real noticeable problems with the DOF and the editing looks minimal.
Overall - If you would have been able to capture a little more of what the performers were doing, I'm quite sure it would've helped your cause. The people in the front with their instruments were crucial to the challenge topic so they would still have to be fairly prominent to remain on topic. I think the idea is really good, I just don't know how easy it was to execute this picture. I'm sure if you were a little farther back, you'd be trying to take the picture through people. Well take care and good luck - Bob |

Super journalistic shot here. The motion blur implies sound, too. Very nice! |

Sound of Music. Personally not something I would shoot. But lately there has not been anything that I have wanted to shoot. |

Good subject. Would like to have seen a tighter shot on the drummer. All the people standing around lower the energy. Maybe slow down the shutter speed to to get more motion. |

Mmm. Mmm. Mmm. This is the sound of indecision.
The dancers caught my eye first, and while that implies sound to some extent, it doesn't initially jump out as a sound photo. A closer focus on the percussionists might have helped with this. I also am not sure I like teh way the bottom dancer is cut off; a different angle might have helped with the challenge-meeting aspect in general.
That having been said, aside from not caring for the dancer position entirely, I think this is a fairly good action shot. |

Very cool - looks like capoeira. |

The situation definitely suggests sound. Is this capoeira? |

I think this would have worked better if you'd cropped to just the guy with the drum. The youths in the foreground are unfocused and confusing - I guess they're dancing or something but I can't really tell. |
