no, it's not a beautiful beach, a dream estate, or anything worth hoping for...

used straightened paper clips to hold the cigarette and the flower together, and the cigarette to a board with a hole in it. halogen work lamps pointing up at wall, and to frame left pointing at the flower. a small flood light was aimed into the flower.

shot in RAW, slight exposure and saturation adjustments, converted to TIFF, and opened in PS6.
selective color adjustments - some subtle dodging and burning - rotate canvas - canvas size for border - resize - USM

A bit strange to me, but a clever idea and one very well worth sharing. The angle adds some drama here, and the scene is well lit.

Great concept and the angle of view is good. Perhaps a little better lighting would help on the cig, and I might suggest a darker/starker background. Assume the damaged bloom is intentional. Altogether a very sad (in a good way) picture.

Wow! What a creatively thought out photo. I like the idea and concept. The uneven black border detracts it just a bit for me, but not much. Good luck in the challenge - and again, I love your originality! :-)

Fabulous idea. I love the juxtaposition of the flower and the cigarette. I'm not crazy about the gray background, but it works well with the idea of ashes and death. I can tell the flower is fake, which bothers me a little, but the overall effect is wonderful.

I really like this one - quite creative and I hope you'll do well.

What's with the black border at the bottom anyway?

Such a paradox in this photo. I liked what you did with the combination. Just a little more focused and a little dodging around the purple petals would have added a few points to the score.

Excellent idea, great shot, love the photo. Only thing I have to whine about is I would like to see the borders equal on every side.

Interesting. The frame isn't symmetrical which detracts from the shot. The use of negative space is good with the subject placed horizontal, so it leads your eye form corner to corner. The lighting is good. I wish the cigarette were lit - but that might've created havoc on the scene. hee hee
