I ran into this guy playing classical guitar at an artist reception at the local coffeehouse this evening. I asked him if I could shoot some photos while he played and he was thrilled that I wanted to. I was trying to take advantage of the lighting situation in the room... There was a window directly behind him where the sun was lighting up the wall on the right side of the image, so I tried to expose in such a way that I got the high key background and saved some of the motion blur to show movement in his arm and fingers as he played...

I chose to title this shot 'Recuerdos de la Alhambra' because that is the name of one of my favorite classical guitar pieces by Francisco Tarrega (1852 - 1909).

John, I love this picture, it's beautiful. I was sure it would win (just because I like it, eh?).

Nice emotive photo. The motion blur of the arm works well.

what a great composition. I don\'t care for the border, I think its a bit heavy for the gentleness and motion of the shot, but its ok. Love this.

Seems to me the shutter speed is a bit slow causing a bit of a blur on the Face. If that is what was intended then Well done. I think composition is nice and the photo in general is better than average.

Good shot. I asked my husband (who plays classical guitar) and he tells me the fingers are in the right position for the beginning of Tarrega's piece (I hope he's right :). Who is the guitarrist? I really like this picture, it's one of my two 10s this week.

great portrait!

Great shot... maybe a little better if you showed more of the round part of the guitar and him picking (just the hand).

These do make sound 7

Ahh, good, a guitar picture that actually features a player. This was one of the ideas I ended up rejecting (you did it better than I would have anyhow), so obviously I think it's on topic. I like the composition, though I would have liked to see maybe a little more lighting on the front of the guitar/fretboard. What is being played?

I really like the photo, although I am not a fan of the crop. A little more of the sound hole would help portray "sound"

One of the better instrument shots of this challenge, I think. I love your dynamic composition, and the tones are wonderful. The concentration on the subject's face and she slight blur of the background arm really make you feel as if he's playing and convey the music of the shot. Congrats. A winner. 10

I like how you've captured the intensity of the music on the musician's face.

very nice shot. great diagonal compostion and choice of b+w. not sure i care for the blur on the arm, but im being picky, it really looks devilish the way it is.

Español?

I like this because you actually showed the movement in the finger... if not for that, I would just have thought the guy was sitting there holding a guitar. Nicely composed as well, I like the close up perspective. Great contrasts in this photo. It kind of bothers me that the arm in the back gets slightly lost, but it's not a huge thing. Otherwise absolutely beautifully done. -9-
