You mentioned in the forum post "it's nothing spectacular". The question is "what would make it spectacular?" (not that I actually know what I'm talking about). I think Shadow has a good point...nothing to settle on...it's a very busy photo. I think the lighting is one thing that could make a dramatic change in this shot. It looks like a very bright day, and the tree trunk that is "washed out" kind of draws your attention to it at the egde rather than in for a deeper look at things. I Can't tell if this is a flash going off or direct sunlight near the bottom, and shade as you go up. If it's sunlight, maybe a reflector to shine up the trunk and onto the leaves would help. |

hi Tiberius, i read your post in the forums, and here is my reply. for me, the photo doesnt really have an interesting spot for my eyes to "feast" upon. when i look at the photo, the eyes rolls all over the photo without any area to pause or capturing my interest. all the time, i've been looking at photos mostly by feel. but lately, helpful people have pointed to me things like dynamic range, 9step rules. i think these 2 can greatly enhance a black n white photo such as this. there just isnt enough details in the shadow or higlights (maybe you disagree) but thats just what i felt. i checked your profile, you make great photos, maybe this one just didnt really cut it with the voters. |

I really can't understand the low position for such a good picture. |

The trunk seems a bit washed out, but otherwise I like the color treatment. My favorite part is the part of the tree that branches into two near the top. |
