Typically simpler subject matters make better candidates for negative space photos. You have so much interesting stuff going on in the subject area, the negative space takes away from it. So in other words I have to agree with Tsheets. You have some very nice contrast in your photo and it has a lot of potential, definately worth the time to try other composition edits.

I think this may have done better if you would have gotten closer to the subject. I don't think all the negative space at the top adds much to the photo. As it is, we can see the guy, and he looks interesting, but he isn't close enough to really study him (at least not at 640) ;-) At 12mm, I imagine what I am suggesting would put really close to him, though. I can understand why you may not have been able to get that close. It would, however, increase the 'ground up' perspective as well as bring him closer. |
